Vladimir Chizhov - Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union - met with Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt,EU Trade Insights‘ Editor – to talk about the crisis in Ukraine and discuss EU-Russia relations.
According to Ambassador Chizhov, Russia is not responsible for the crisis in Ukraine, despite allegations by the European Union and other Western nations. Instead, he says Russia’s aim is to assist Ukraine by sending humanitarian aid. Chizhov also stresses the importance of the trilateral agreement between the EU, Russia and Ukraine to delay the provisional application of the EU-Ukraine trade deal until the end of 2015. Furthermore, the Russian Ambassador expects the EU to end what he calls a spiral of sanctions: “the moment the EU changes its course and revokes the sanctions introduced, that very same moment Russia will revoke its countermeasures“, the Ambassador underlines.
