Karsten is German, originally from the city of Kiel at the Baltic Sea, not far from the German-Danish border.

He has studied Political Science, History and Sociology at the University of Kiel (Germany) and Coventry (United Kingdom).

He works now in the sector of non-formal European Youth Education. He runs with two colleagues the oldest Europe House in Europe – the "Europahaus Marienberg", a European education center. He is one of the heads responsible for the development and implementation of the European Youth Education "Think Europe".  

Karsten is also Vice-President of the NGO European Network for Education and Training as well as member in the TEAM Europe in Germany, the speaker service of the European Commission in the EU member states.

"Try and leave this world a little better than you found it", is a famous sentence the founder of the World Scout Movement, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, put in his farewell letter to all his fellows. "As a Boy Scout I very much appreciate this motto", Karsten says.
