Every year on the 9th May, we find ourselves celebrating Europe Day. It was 65 years ago that the French foreign minister Robert Schuman presented the Schuman Declaration, which would lead to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. In other words the predecessor to today’s European Union. Even if Europe Day is also referred to as Schuman Day, there was another political figure, who played an equally important role, if not even more in some cases, in the new venture.
