The Organising Committee of MEU Creta cordially invites you to the Model European Union (MEU) Creta 2014, between 22-26 October 2014, in Heraklion Crete.
Μodel European Union Creta simulates the way EU legislation comes into force. Participants are assigned roles as Members of the European Parliament as Ministers of the Council, Chairs and Journalists, and experience firsthand the whole process of the EU legislative procedure through debates.
MEU will take place in the picturesque island of Crete, organized under the auspices of AEGEE Heraklio and the Region of Crete, the partnership of Bringing Europeans Together Association (BETA) e.V and the support of the European Parliament's Office in Greece, Europe Direct Heraklion, Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Minoan Lines.
Model European Union is a simulation of the decision making procedures within the European Union. Its main goal is to offer a realistic experience of the ordinary legislative procedure. Through role-play, debate and negotiation participants will have the unique opportunity to get an insight into the function of the three main bodies of the EU: the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
If you are between 18 and 35 years of age with a solid interest in European politics and law, you are eligible to apply. MEU Creta accepts applicants from all disciplines beyond law, political science, and international/ EU studies. MEU accepts applicant from all EU member states (95% quota). It also accepts applications from non-EU citizens (5% quota). Among EU citizens, at least 35% Greek citizens will be accepted.
MEU Creta strives to maintain gender balance, thus it accepts at least 33% female participants, provided their applications comply with the quality criteria set for all applications in general. Overall, MEU Creta accepts 100 applicants (28 for the Council, 60 for the European Parliament, 4 as Chairs and 8 as Journalists).
In order to apply, you need to fill in the online application form and submit your curriculum vitae – all in English, as this will be the official working language of the conference. Within the application form you should be prepared to answer a series of obligatory and optional questions regarding your personal preferences and opinion about the current events in Europe.
Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automatically generated confirmation. Young applicants without previous debating experience are especially encouraged to apply. However, for Chairs in particular, previous chairing experience will be an asset.
