Europe stands at a historic crossroads: will the heads of state and government, technocrats and lobbyists continue calling the shots, or can we build a Europe of the citizens – a Europe that really responds to the needs and aspirations of the people?

Ahead of the European elections Democracy International launches a Europe-wide action day to draw attention to our collective demand for a better, more democratic Europe.

If the big decision-makers in the EU institutions are not listening, we will need to get organised right across the continent to make sure that our demand for more democracy in Europe is impossible to ignore.

Save the date!

Democracy International is calling on creative, enthusiastic and politically engaged people from all over Europe to take part in the transnational action day for a democratic Europe on Saturday, 17th May.

Street actions, Political salons, and Debates

There are plenty of ways that you can actively participate to make this day powerful. Democracy International is working with partners on street actions, speakers’ corners in public squares, political salons and building pressure on candidates for the European Parliament, and they want to hear your ideas about what kinds of activities would appeal most to you and your community.

Do you want to take part in this year’s Democratic Europe Day?

Then please email Sophie van Hatzfeldt ( who will get back to you in due course with more information.
