This infographic made by Statista  shows the gender breakdown of all individual Nobel Prizes since 1901.

In fact, since the Prize’s creation only 46 women have been awarded. In some fields the breakdown is very high.

Some of the most striking differences are: Economics (1 out of 73), Psychology-Medicine (11 out of 196) and Physics (2 out of 197).

How could you explain this breakdown?

Do you think it is a consequence of a widespread gender discrimination?

How could you explain such a big difference in some specific fields rather than in others?
