After so many decades of peace, freedom and democracy, it's hard for us even to imagine a dictatorship or any totalitarian regime in Europe. Not only we take these things for granted, but our constitutions and whole political systems cannot allow it.

But still, is the EU really able to "protect" democracy and the rule of law in all its member states? And is that EU's problem, or it should be strictly a national issue?

Is democracy "reversible", can we ever face another dictatorship in Europe?
