Global Alert: Girls are nowhere to be "scene"

As seen in the results of a study done in 11 countries, women take the back seat in international films.

Only a third of speaking parts go to women in the world's biggest movie markets.

Across the nations that are most profitable for the film industry, less than a third of all speaking characters are female even though women make up half the population.

The study analyzed films from Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Russia, South Korea, the United States and the United Kingdom — as well as U.K.-U.S. collaborations. It was commissioned by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and supported by UN Women and The Rockefeller Foundation.
