The World Health Organisation (WHO) has analyzed data from 194 states and the 2014 report reveals that 3.3 million people die each year worldwide due to excessive alcohol consumption.

Europe is the region with the highest consumption of alcohol per person. Belarus and the Republic of Moldova are at the very top, with people drinking on average of 17.5 litres and 16.8 litres of pure alcohol a year, respectively.
