OneEurope, Hanna Starchyk Today we celebrate the Reunification of Germany

It is hard to believe but 25 years ago now the leading economy of Europe - Germany, was split into two parts. The socialist experiment in German Democratic Republic failed completely on October the 3rd 1990, when GDR officially ceased to exist.

This anniversary is not only significant for Germany, but for the whole Europe, especially in the hard times we all are going through now. The united Germany wouldn't be possible without the active participation of civil society, people's will for change and determination to live in the united prosperous country. Probably here lies one more reason why Germany is so open and friendly to refugees: a quarter century ago many German people were refugees in their own country.

So let's celebrate together with Germany and value peace, democracy and unity in Europe!
